Farallon Capital Management

Expanding Globally to Invest Locally

This San Francisco headquartered investment firm was founded by Tom Steyer, who went on to run for the US Presidency in 2020. Known for pioneering the university endowment practice of hedge fund investment management, and for helping to stabilise Indonesia’s banking sector with substantial investments at a time of dire need, Farallon was at one time the world’s largest hedge fund.

Farallon approached One Space for the design and construction of their Hong Kong offices at IFC 2 in 2018. The brief demanded that the 2,500 sq ft space allow for 30% potential headcount growth over the period of the tenancy, using a 120-degree desking format. Informal Huddle Rooms, in addition to more formal Meeting Rooms, are provided in close proximity to the Trading Floor in order to satisfy the business’ confidentiality requirements.

Our designers took full advantage of the high ceilings, admitting ample daylight and offering spectacular views over Victoria Harbour by using full-height clear glazing. The interior aesthetic takes its inspiration from Farallon Island, located off the coast of San Francisco, introducing a diagonal crosshair motif, windswept-looking timber surfaces and references to the famous SFO fog.
