Steppe Capital

Singapore-based investment holding company and international family office

One Space’s design for Steppe Capital renders the main walls in charcoaled timber veneer, exuding an understated richness and textured backdrop to the entire space. Loose furniture by Japan’s Okamura was specified to complete a setting of quietly modern stature and self-assured stability.

Steppe Capital‘s brief to One Space demanded an open, easy-flowing and modern headquarters occupying a 1,500 sq ft unit at 6 Battery Road, to establish a sophisticated and pleasant place to work for the firm’s tightly-knit team of investment professionals.

Our space planning aims to rationalise the challenging geometry of these premises, with its imperfectly located entry point dictated by the tenancy’s location at the end of a long corridor. In response, our planning establishes a gracious arrival sequence that choreographs an unfolding journey from public space to the more private meeting and work spaces. Wide windows on two sides allowed us to not only admit ample daylight, but also to exploit the excellent views across Singapore’s cityscape and spectacular harbour-front.

We drew our design inspiration from the firm’s Kazakh heritage, in specific from the famed Big Almaty Late located in Kazakhstan’s Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. Positioned at a very high altitude and made up of glacial waters, this stunningly pristine, volcanically-formed feature exudes an ever-changing light-green to turquoise glow, which we emulated in two strategically positioned anchor-pieces, fabricated in spray-finished cabinetry.

In counterpoint to these figurative elements, we rendered the main walls in charcoaled timber veneer, exuding an understated richness and textured backdrop to the entire space. Loose furniture by Japan’s Okamura was specified to complete a setting of quietly modern stature and self-assured stability.
