Manchester United Football Club, the world’s second most valuable football club, made its highly anticipated arrival in Hong Kong with the support of One Space’s design team. We were engaged to design their regional headquarters at 50 Connaught Road, which was completed in June 2012.
Occupying an entire floor in this brand new, Grade A building in Hong Kong’s Central District, the Club’s premises are divided into two parts: Client Suites and Workplace.
Upon arrival, ManU’s guests are treated to a truly immersive football club experience from the front door. A series of rooms, re-interpretations of a traditional club setting, lay out a journey that reinforces the brand and its heritage and every step. High ceilings are exploited throughout, with traditional timber wall panelling in the Reception giving way through a large portal to a striking and theatrical “Hall of Fame”. Here a panoramic, self-illuminated image of the famous Old Trafford Stadium, complete with real AstroTurf on the floor, replaces the nostalgic wall panelling. On the opposite wall are full-height images of legendary ManU players throughout history.
Ultimately, guests are led into a large presentation room / boardroom, where heritage pieces and digital displays convey together the ManU story to the club’s guests.
By contrast, the ManU Workplace is crisp, modern, clean and open, exploiting the full-height windows and high ceilings. Use of the brand colours is used discerningly, to create a pleasant and creative work environment.
