One Space was appointed to design the first major modification to this iconic landmark building, in order to upgrade the building’s access control by creating a single control point where there were previously three entrances.
Our response to this brief was to create a more hospitable customer experience, whilst establishing a stronger community role for the public plaza. This is one of Hong Kong’s most highly visible public spaces, demanding sensitivity in both design and construction.
Our deceptively simple scheme reinforces the rigorous architectural discipline that characterises the existing building. It is conceived as an unobtrusive, transparent insertion that mediates comfortably between the building’s dramatic glass underbelly and the sloping, terraced plaza floor.
